Far East to host Japanese Dolls festival
Far East- the oriental cuisine restaurant at Rodas will be organizing a Japanese Doll's Festival "Hina Matsuri". The hotel has imported a set of Japanese dolls to add flavor to the festival. Besides, the executive chef has laid down elaborate menu, which caters to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food connoisseurs.
' Hina ' in Japanese means dolls and 'matsuri' means festival. According to Japanese tradition, these dolls are not played with but are ceremonial dolls, an heirloom of the household, many of them handed down from generation to generation. During festival time, they are displayed for a few days in the best room of the house, and, after the festival, they are carefully boxed and put away until the next year.
A set of Hina dolls usually consists of at least 15 dolls, which wear the costumes of a Heian Period Imperial court. The display also includes miniature household articles, which are often exquisite artistic productions. The most highly valued dolls are the Dairi-sama, which represent the Emperor and Empress in resplendent court costumes of silk. They are attended by their two Ministers, three kanjo (Court Ladies), and five Court Musicians.
All are displayed on one of usually five steps, each from 3 to 6 feet-long and covered with bright red cloth, making the figures look like they are sitting on a red carpet. The Imperial couple occupies the top step, the Emperor to the left of the Empress. The Court Ladies and banquet trays and dishes occupy the second tier and the other dolls are arranged on the lower tiers and further down some toys & tiny furniture.
The Chef has prepared a special menu, consisting of starters, soups, main-course and desserts. Some of the Japanese delicacies available are cobachi (appetizers) like salmon sashimi, aspara bacon maki , tori karage non vegetarian and vegetarian sushi platter, mushroom teriyaki , yasai sarada, soup's like aspara shitake (egg) soup. Other items in the menu include shishamo yaki , shake shio yaki ,yakitori moriawase, age mono (fried dishes) like tempura moriawase , crab claws ,yasai tempura etc.
The festival will be on between July 14 to July 23. The timings are 12.00 to 3 pm lunch and 7 pm to 11.30-pm dinner.
